The Korea Gas Safety Corporation (President & CEO Gyurnggoog Bahk, hereinafter referred to as KGS) announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with TÜV SÜD, a leading German testing and certification organization, on October 12. The agreement marked the registration of the Hydrogen Appliance Inspection & Certification Center (hereinafter referred to as the Center) as a TÜV SÜD recognised testing laboratory and aimed to strengthen cooperation in the hydrogen sector.

The MOU builds on cooperation between the two organizations since December 2025 to support hydrogen product manufacturers in Korea and abroad in obtaining overseas certifications and ensuring product reliability.

The event was attended by 10 representatives, including Hong-chul Kim, Executive Director, Gas Technology at KGS, and Walter Reithmaier, CEO of TÜV SÜD’s Industry & Infrastructure Division, to discuss expanding cooperation in hydrogen products and hydrogen refueling station performance evaluation.

The two organizations plan to combine KGS’s hydrogen product testing infrastructure with TÜV SÜD’s experience in international testing and conformity assessment to help Korean companies prepare for the technical requirements for entering overseas markets.

They will also explore ways to increase the Center’s utilization by attracting demand for certification testing from both Korea and overseas markets.

“Through this cooperation, I hope the Center’s testing infrastructure will be used more broadly to strengthen the technological competitiveness of Korean hydrogen companies and support their preparation for overseas market entry,” said Hong-chul Kim, Executive Director, Gas Technology at KGS. He added, “We will continue to expand technical exchanges and practical cooperation between the two organizations.”

“The registration of the Center as an external testing laboratory is significant because it shows that the cooperation between our two organizations has produced a tangible result,” said Walter Reithmaier, CEO of TÜV SÜD’s Industry & Infrastructure Division. He added, “By combining KGS’s testing capabilities with TÜV SÜD’s international testing and assessment experience, we will continue to enhance safety and trust in the hydrogen industry.”
