KOLAS Certification newly Acquired by Hydrogen Appliance Inspection & Certification Center of Korea Gas Safety Corporation

Hydrogen Appliance Inspection & Certification Center (hereinafter referred to as the Center) of The Korea Gas Safety Corporation (President & CEO Gyurnggoog Bahk, hereinafter referred to as KGS) announced on Dec 24 that it has obtained the KOLAS(Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme)(Test, KS Q ISO/IEC 17025) certification.

The Center was established for the purpose of legal inspection and tests requested for hydrogen appliances (hydrogen extraction facilities, water electrolysis facilities and fixed/mobile fuel cells) in accordance with the Hydrogen Act, and since its opening in November 2024, it has been supporting the development of the domestic hydrogen appliance industry by conducting thorough legal inspections.

In particular, the Center adopted the KOLAS quality system to establish a system for the demand for overseas certification of domestic hydrogen appliance manufacturers and the advancement of test and inspection quality.

The accreditation standard is the largest in the hydrogen appliance sector in Korea, and 29 types of standards (484 test items) were registered, including ISO 16110 for hydrogen extraction facilities, ISO 22734, and IEC 62282 for fuel cells. Compared to KOLAS testing institutions for other hydrogen appliances in Korea, it has secured competitiveness with far more specifications and test items.

Based on the acquisition of KOLAS certification, the Center can easily register external laboratories for overseas certification. Currently, the Center has signed an MOU for overseas certification with major overseas certification organizations (BSI KOREA, SZU KOREA, TUV NORD), and has enabled CE certification and UKCA certification in Korea. This is expected to help domestic hydrogen appliance manufacturers develop new markets and revitalize the economy of the national hydrogen industry.
